Poetry By Love And Cheesecake: FOOD FOR THE SOUL

Sunday’s here, the weekend’s ended.
You can either wallow or do something splendid.
We suggest breakfast, or perhaps a brunch
Like soups or salads, or a perhaps a light munch.
We know just the place; you’ll love it too
The name’s in this ‘Poetry’, and that’s your clue.

You got it. And if you haven’t, we’re talking about Poetry by Love And Cheesecake. One lazy Sunday, we decided to head to this charming dessert bar and café. Tucked away amidst the busy by-lanes of Bandra’s famed Linking Road, you’ll really need to scout this one out, as it’s easy to miss. But once you find it, you’re in for a real surprise.

The minute we entered, we noticed how pleasant the ambiance was. Right from the water-coloured, pastel walls to the smiley staff, it seemed like a happy place. We couldn’t help salivate over their mile-long dessert counter, each calorie-cuddled bite looking as delicious as ever. Spanning over two levels, this café is tastefully done. With a generous dose of sunshine and a fairly sumptuous menu, we settled into their comfortable seats and settled on an All American Breakfast.

Sunday was taking its time but luckily for us, our breadbasket arrived rather quickly. It was an assortment of freshly baked breads like muffins, focaccia, butter croissants along with a side serving of cream cheese, herb butter and marmalade. As we nibbled on these delicious goodies, our Home Style Potatoes arrived in style. These we found, were nothing but the good ol’ Potato Wedges with a fancy name. They tasted alright. Halfway through our binge, our table was brimming with food. This time it was a dose of health with a bowl of fresh fruits and their Homemade Bircher Muesli. A bowl of muesli sprinkled with nuts, a drizzle of yoghurt, dollops of fruits with a prominent orangey taste. We lapped it up in one go. Just as we were getting done, our Sundried Tomato Omlette arrived. With it, came a generous helping of Turkey Ham and Bacon. Yes, it all tasted as good as it looked. And no, we weren’t done yet. We ended our otherwise healthy breakfast with an absolute smacker, Hazelnut Brioche French Toast and washed it down with a cup of Black Coffee. What a blissful morning it was!

What we also loved about Poetry was that they bring you the bill encased in a book of poetry. We received ours in a book by Gulzar, one of our favourite poets. So lovely! This little place offers more than just love and cheesecake. We were two happy souls, high on comfort food. And yes, we will visit again. Because good food is like good poetry. We’ve found ours and it’s one we’ll savour for long.
